About Felix
I knew I wanted to become a therapist when I was just 11 years old, after experiencing bereavement for the first time. I felt lost and confused—not only about what had happened and the feelings I was experiencing but also about how others responded to me. There were sympathetic head tilts and murmured "sorrys"—but why were they sorry? They hadn’t done anything. Then there was, “I know exactly what you’re going through”—which wasn’t true either. If they didn’t know, how could I? People cared deeply about me, but they didn’t know how to show it in a way that helped, and I didn’t know how to care for myself either.I knew I wanted to support others through similar experiences in the future, but I also recognized that it would take time, learning, and growth to get there. Back then, mental health carried an even heavier stigma than it does today. I wanted to help people feel open, honest, and confident to share their struggles. I still remember how, when I broke my arm, everyone at school signed my cast, offering encouragement and attention. But when I struggled emotionally, I told my biology teacher I had a dentist appointment instead of therapy, because that felt more accepted. He must have known—who goes to the dentist every fortnight for three months? As I embarked on my studies, I became infatuated with psychology, philosophy, mental health, and the science of human connection. Every step—whether through studying, working, or reflecting—reinforced my belief that Clinical Psychology was the right path for me. It hasn’t been easy; the journey has been rigorous, challenging, and at times exhausting. But through it all, I’ve grown, both personally and professionally, alongside the people I’ve supported, the communities I’ve engaged with, and the evolving world of mental health care.A particularly profound influence on my practice has been nature. I’ve come to deeply appreciate how adaptive and grounding our connection with the natural world can be. This understanding led me to Cornwall to establish a more community-focused and nature-led practice. The NHS holds an invaluable place in my heart and career, and I aim to always collaborate with it. Despite its challenges, it can be a beautiful system of care. However, I’ve found that innovation within the NHS can sometimes feel like moving tectonic plates—it’s possible, but painfully slow. Through Low Tide Therapy, I aim to complement the NHS by creating a space where new ideas, community integration, and evidence-based approaches can flourish, all while working in harmony with existing services.
